The word traces to the Arabic anbar, which first meant ambergris, the perfume ingredient from sperm whales, before it came to mean fossil resin. Amber is recorded as a color name in English from 1735. Oxford illustrates the color sense with the example "The traffic lights were on amber." Amber, the material, is fossilized tree resin and can preserve plant or animal remains. The commercial color is a named interpretation, not a mineral composition.

Orange named the fruit in English by the late 14th century, from Old French orenge, a word traced through Italian, Arabic naranj and Persian narang to Sanskrit naranga (orange tree), though its ultimate origin is uncertain. The first n was probably lost through confusion with the article, as in Old French une narange, and French or (gold) may also have shaped the form. English used orange as a color word only from the 1510s, and before that such shades were usually called citrine or saffron.

See every color, in every shade, on the List of Colors.
Shades of orange on GKBook include Acorn Squash, Adrenalin, Adventure Orange, Alesan. This page lists 783 orange colors so far, each with its RGB value, hex code and maker.
Orange here covers bright colors between red and yellow, from apricot and peach to pumpkin. Each color gets one shade, checked by eye against its swatch, so the name does not decide it: a color called gray or white can sit in another shade.
They run from lightest to darkest by lightness in OKLCH, a color model built to match how the eye judges lightness, so close colors sit side by side. The A to Z button puts them in alphabetical order.
Not exactly. A screen value is the maker's best match for a screen; paint looks different under daylight, lamps and in the sample size, so check a real sample before you buy.
