Facets of a Flag: The 1921 Design Moment

Where the modern flag began

This rendering cuts the bands into crystal facets and floats the Chakra above them like a pressed button — the flag rebuilt as pure geometry. Every plane still lands in the right third: saffron above, green below, white holding the wheel.

The modern flag has an exact starting point. At the Congress session of 1921, Pingali Venkayya placed a flag design before Mahatma Gandhi; a white band joined the colours and the charkha took the centre, and the freedom movement finally marched under one banner. Everything after — 1931’s formal tricolour, 1947’s Chakra — refined what that meeting began.
