What does the Senegal flag look like?

The Senegal flag has three equal vertical bands: green at the hoist, gold in the middle, and red at the fly. A green five-pointed star occupies the center. The familiar rectangular flag uses height:length proportions of 2:3; its basic design is described in Article 1 of the constitution.

To recognize Senegal’s flag, look at the center before relying on the colors alone. The star is green, its background is gold, and the bands run vertically. In the conventional front view, the hoist is the edge nearest the pole on the left. The downloadable picture shows a flat rectangle without a pole, folds, fringe, lettering, or decorative shadows. Those omissions make the design easier to compare, print, and resize. The surrounding article illustrations add explanatory labels outside the flag; the clean download preserves the flag by itself.

What are the colors of the Senegal flag?

Senegal’s flag uses green, gold, and red, with the star repeating the green. Gold is commonly displayed as yellow. This package uses #00843F, #FEEF42, and #E41A23, sampled from a Senegalese embassy web illustration. These screen values are documented reproduction choices, not numerical standards stated in the constitution.

A color name and a production specification serve different purposes. The constitutional word for the middle band is gold, while a flat digital illustration can represent that color with ordinary yellow pixels. Metallic ink is therefore not implied by this download. The embassy reference is a compressed WebP image, so its pixels contain small variations near edges and elsewhere. The selected values come from dominant flat areas. They make this set internally consistent but cannot establish a legally prescribed Pantone shade, textile dye, or universal print conversion.

What does the Senegal flag mean?

The government’s explanation connects the colors with religious and cultural hopes, productive wealth, life, and national effort. It associates the green star with openness and spiritual aspiration. These interpretations explain the national symbol; the constitutional flag clause itself chiefly describes the arrangement, colors, and five-pointed central star.

Four panels summarize the attributed meanings of green, gold, red, and the star.
Figure 2. Symbolism · keep the attribution visible The government’s attributed meanings accompany a constitutionally described design.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

Read the symbolism alongside the drawing rather than expecting every idea to have its own separate object. Senegal does not add a book for learning, a crop for prosperity, or a religious building to express the meanings discussed by the government. The visual vocabulary remains three bands and one star. This distinction is useful in educational work: a caption may explain an interpretation without modifying the flag. An illustration that inserts additional symbols becomes a new composition, even when the added objects seem compatible with the official explanation.

What does green represent on the Senegal flag?

The Ministry of Culture relates green to the Prophet’s flag for Muslims, hope for Christians, and fertility in animist traditions. That explanation acknowledges several religious perspectives. Visually, the same green appears twice: as the entire hoist band and as the five-pointed star inside the gold middle band.

Complete Senegal flag with two panels: Green · the band and star use one color.
Figure 3. Green · the band and star use one color Green has an attributed cultural interpretation and appears in two separate shapes.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

The two green elements should remain the same color within a single reproduction. If the star is darker merely because a different graphic was pasted into the design, the result introduces an unnecessary inconsistency. Reusing one color value in the vector avoids that problem. The star is a filled shape, so the gold background should not show through its middle. A green outline around an empty star would change the silhouette and the relative amounts of green and gold, particularly when the image is viewed at a small size.

Why is the middle band gold or yellow?

Gold is the constitutional name of the middle color; yellow is its usual flat-image appearance. The Ministry of Culture connects it with wealth produced through work and with cultural and intellectual achievement. The central band has the same width as the green and red bands, despite carrying the star.

Complete Senegal flag with two panels: Gold · the equal middle band.
Figure 4. Gold · the equal middle band The middle band has equal width even though the star covers part of its visible area.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

The central band provides a continuous background around the star. It is not a narrow border following the star’s points, and it is not divided into upper and lower pieces in the construction. Draw the whole rectangle first, then place the star over it. This approach prevents accidental seams when the image is scaled. For classroom printing, ordinary yellow process color is a practical representation of the supplied artwork. A metallic effect would be a separate material treatment and should not be inferred from the hexadecimal value in the palette table.

What does red mean on the Senegal flag?

The Ministry of Culture associates red with blood and life, national sacrifice, and determination to overcome underdevelopment. Red fills the fly band, farthest from the pole in the conventional front view. It is a full-height rectangle equal in width to each of the other two colored bands.

Complete Senegal flag with two panels: Red · the band at the fly.
Figure 5. Red · the band at the fly Red fills an equal full-height band at the fly; the meaning is attributed to the ministry.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

Use the position of red as a second recognition check after identifying the star. In a front-view illustration with the hoist on the left, red belongs on the right. A reversed photograph may show a different apparent order because the observer is looking through the other side of the flag. That situation should be described with the hoist position rather than corrected by guessing from left and right alone. The package includes a separate reverse-view diagram to explain this change without altering the front-view master used for downloads.

What does the green star on Senegal’s flag represent?

The government describes the star as expressing openness to five continents and an aspiration toward spiritual values. Its green also carries hope. The emblem is one solid, upright, five-pointed star centered in the gold band; it is not a collection of five separate stars or a coat of arms.

Complete Senegal flag with two panels: One green star · the central emblem.
Figure 6. One green star · the central emblem The star is the principal distinguishing emblem of Senegal’s tricolor.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

The star gives the otherwise simple tricolor its strongest distinguishing detail. Its five tips should remain visibly separate, with clean inward corners between them. Avoid an added outline, glow, bevel, or shadow when preparing a reference flag. Those effects can obscure the edge and make the emblem look thicker than intended. In a small icon, check the top tip and the two lower tips after resizing. If those details disappear, increase the displayed size rather than changing the number of points or enlarging the star independently of the flag.

Why does the Senegal flag’s star have five points?

The constitutional description explicitly calls for five points, and the government’s symbolism refers to openness to five continents. That phrase is a symbolic continental grouping, not a universal geography rule. The sources used here do not assign the points to five Senegalese regions, ethnic groups, religions, or neighboring countries.

Figure 7. Five points and ten outline vertices The diagram distinguishes the five outer points from the five inward corners; it adds no point-by-point geographical assignment.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

A five-pointed star has ten alternating boundary vertices when drawn as a filled polygon: five outer tips and five inward corners. Counting every corner as a separate point would therefore misdescribe the emblem. In this reconstruction, one outer tip faces straight upward, and the other tips are evenly spaced around the center. The regular construction gives a balanced shape with a vertical line of symmetry. It is an explicit drawing method, while the government’s reference to continents explains a meaning; the two kinds of information should remain distinct.

Are Senegal’s flag colors Pan-African colors?

Yes. Green, gold or yellow, and red belong to a widely used Pan-African flag palette. Senegal’s identity depends on their particular arrangement and its green star. Shared colors do not mean that all African flags have the same symbolism, historical origin, stripe direction, or central emblem.

Four panels show the color family, stripe direction, hoist color, and central emblem.
Figure 8. A shared palette · a distinct national design The shared palette does not imply identical meanings or histories for different countries.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

A useful comparison begins with structure. Ask whether the stripes are vertical or horizontal, which color touches the hoist, and whether an emblem appears in the middle. This method is more reliable than matching a three-color thumbnail. Senegal’s combination also illustrates how a widely shared palette can support a distinctive national design. A caption should name the country as well as describe the colors, especially in a mixed gallery. The individual explanations attached to each country’s symbols deserve their own attribution rather than a single meaning copied across an entire continent.

What is the Senegal flag’s aspect ratio?

The customary Senegal flag has height:length proportions of 2:3, meaning it is one and a half times as long as it is high. The clean SVG is 4,500 by 3,000 units, and the PNG is 6,000 by 4,000 pixels. Article 1 does not state that numerical ratio.

Flag with external dimension lines showing three units across and two units high.
Figure 9. The 2:3 height:length rectangle The customary ratio is supported by the reference account and embassy image; the constitutional clause does not state a numerical overall ratio.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

The order of the measurements matters. Height:length equals 2:3, whereas width:height equals 3:2; both describe the same horizontal rectangle. A drawing 900 pixels wide should therefore be 600 pixels high. Multiplying both measurements by the same number preserves the shape, but changing only one stretches the bands and star. The dimensions of a page, thumbnail card, or social preview are separate. Place the complete flag inside that surrounding space with room to spare instead of forcing the national rectangle to fill a canvas with a different aspect ratio.

How wide are the three bands on Senegal’s flag?

All three vertical bands are equal in width and extend through the full height of the flag. Each occupies one third of its length. On this package’s 4,500-unit-wide SVG, the green, gold, and red rectangles are each 1,500 units wide, with boundaries at x = 1,500 and x = 3,000.

Complete flag with three external width brackets, each labeled 1,500.
Figure 10. Three equal band widths Every band is 1,500 units wide and 3,000 units high in the vector master.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

These measurements describe the underlying bands before the green star is added. The visible gold area is slightly smaller because the star covers part of it; that does not make the gold band narrower. For a 900 by 600 image, use three rectangles measuring 300 by 600. Their vertical edges should meet exactly, with no white gutter or dark divider. If a design application adds strokes automatically, turn them off. Even a thin stroke can become a conspicuous line when the flag is exported at a larger size.

How large should the star be on the Senegal flag?

The constitutional flag clause does not provide a numerical star radius. This reconstruction uses an outer radius of one sixth of the flag height, consistent with the embassy illustration. That gives a 500-unit radius on the 3,000-unit-high SVG. It is a disclosed reproduction choice, not a claimed statutory measurement.

Green star with dashed construction circle and red radius guide, beside the numerical radius choices.
Figure 11. The reconstruction’s star radii A regular star with outer radius H/6 provides a reproducible model guided by the embassy depiction; no statutory radius is claimed.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

Radius means the distance from the construction center to an outer tip. It is not half of the visible star’s vertical bounding box, because an upright five-pointed star has a top tip but no tip directly beneath its center. The inner radius here is approximately 190.983 units, obtained by multiplying the outer radius by (3 − √5) / 2. Keeping this relationship fixed creates a regular star. The circumscribed-circle diameter is 1,000 units; the visible star is slightly narrower and shorter than that circle.

Where is the star positioned on Senegal’s flag?

The star is centered in the gold band. In this reconstruction, its construction center is at x = 2,250 and y = 1,500 on the 4,500 by 3,000 canvas. Those coordinates also mark the center of the whole flag because the three bands have equal widths.

Complete flag with an external coordinate label aligned below its center.
Figure 12. The star’s construction center Center the star by its generating center rather than by the midpoint of its visible bounding box.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

Use the star’s construction center when placing it. Aligning the top and bottom of its visible bounding box at equal distances from the flag edges would shift an upright regular star slightly downward. The geometry diagram therefore identifies a center point rather than relying on the limits of the outline. Coordinates in this package start at the upper-left corner, increase rightward along x, and increase downward along y. When the flag is scaled uniformly, multiply the center coordinates and radius by the same factor to preserve their relationship.

How can you draw the Senegal flag accurately?

Draw a 3:2 width:height rectangle, divide its width into three equal bands, and fill them green, gold, and red from the hoist. Add one centered green five-pointed star. Keep the constitutional design rules separate from this package’s chosen numerical palette, regular-star construction, and outer radius of H/6.

Complete Senegal flag with two panels: Constitutional rules and drawing choices.

Constitutional rules and drawing choices The precise drawing combines explicit design relationships with disclosed reproduction choices.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

A reliable workflow starts with exact rectangles and ends with inspection at the intended display size. Keep the star as a vector polygon until the final raster export. All ten polygon vertices are generated from one center and alternating radii, so the points stay aligned when the file is rebuilt. No photographic texture is necessary for this task. The plain master contains only the three bands and the star. Construction circles, dimension lines, labels, and explanatory panels appear solely in the separate teaching diagrams, where they cannot be mistaken for flag elements.

What is the history of the Senegal flag?

Senegal’s present flag emerged from the breakup of the Mali Federation in 1960. The federation used a green-gold-red tricolor with a black kanaga figure. Senegal retained the three-color arrangement and used a green star instead. The original August 1960 gazette already describes the recognizable national design.

Four panels distinguish the federal predecessor, withdrawal, national emblem, and gazette publication.
Figure 14. From federation to Senegal · 1960 The chronology identifies the federation separately from the present Republic of Mali.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

The flag’s history combines continuity with a decisive change of emblem. A shared tricolor linked Senegal to the short-lived federation, while the green star distinguished the separate republic. It is important to identify the historical federation by name rather than treating it as identical to the present Republic of Mali. Earlier proposals and contemporary reports also require care: an announced possibility is not necessarily an adopted flag. This gallery explains the documented sequence with text and the present design instead of presenting an uncertain historical reconstruction as an authenticated flag master.

When was the Senegal flag adopted?

August 20, 1960 is commonly listed as the adoption date, but the dated legal record needs separate labels. Law 60-045 is dated August 26; its promulgation decree is dated August 29; the gazette appeared August 31. Article 1 in that issue explicitly describes the tricolor and green star.

Four dated panels separate the conventional adoption date from the documentary legal sequence.
Figure 15. Adoption · four dates with different labels The original gazette distinguishes the dated law, promulgation, and publication. It does not establish the first flag-raising occasion.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

The inspected gazette provides a firmer documentary anchor than an unqualified statement that the design first appeared in September. Its masthead and legal text establish that the description was published before September began. They do not, by themselves, establish the first occasion on which a sewn example was raised. The issue also records the assembly’s August 25 session, another date with its own role. For a short caption, “adopted in 1960” avoids collapsing these events. For a detailed timeline, retain the distinct labels shown below and explain the conventional August 20 attribution.

Is the flag’s adoption date the same as Senegal’s independence date?

The events should be distinguished. The Mali Federation became independent from France on June 20, 1960, and Senegal withdrew on August 20. Senegal’s annual national day is April 4. Those dates describe different parts of the independence story; none should automatically replace the dated constitutional record of the flag.

Four panels distinguish the independence sequence from the national holiday and flag record.
Figure 16. Independence and national day · different events Federal independence, Senegal’s withdrawal, the annual celebration, and flag documentation are not interchangeable events.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

A historical timeline can contain several valid dates without requiring one to be discarded. The state represented, the action taken, and the document being cited determine which date belongs in a particular sentence. For example, a statement about the federation’s independence from France needs the federation’s name, while a statement about Senegal’s withdrawal needs to identify that separation. The article’s adoption section follows the same principle for legal instruments. Avoid copying a national holiday date into a flag-adoption field merely because both relate broadly to independence and national identity.

How is the Senegal flag connected to the Mali Federation?

The Mali Federation joined Senegal and the Sudanese Republic, the latter becoming the present Republic of Mali. Its flag used the same green-gold-red sequence with a black central kanaga figure. Senegal’s green star distinguishes its national flag from that federal predecessor and from Mali’s present plain tricolor.

Four panels compare the federal kanaga, Senegal’s star, and Mali’s plain center.
Figure 17. Compare the centers · a historical distinction The federal and national identities are separated; no precise historical emblem geometry is invented.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

A comparison of emblems is more informative than a comparison of colors alone. The federal design, Senegal’s flag, and Mali’s present flag share a recognizable striped framework, but their centers differ. The gallery summarizes those differences in labeled panels without inventing a precise drawing of the historical kanaga. Its proportions would require a suitable historical artwork reference. This also keeps the present flag download unambiguous: it contains the Senegalese star only. A historical comparison belongs in its captioned illustration, not as an alternate emblem hidden inside the national SVG.

Where is the Senegal flag described officially?

Article 1 of Senegal’s constitution describes three equal vertical bands, green, gold, and red, with a green five-pointed star centered in the gold band. The constitutional text published by the Constitutional Council gives that design. The original 1960 gazette provides an earlier documentary statement of the same essential arrangement.

Four panels identify the bands, star, historical record, and limits of the numerical specification.
Figure 18. Article 1 · the national flag description The Constitutional Council text and original gazette state the essential design; the precise reproduction choices are separately disclosed.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

A constitutional description is the starting point for identifying the national design, but it is not necessarily a complete production drawing. Here it gives band equality, color names, star color, point count, and placement. The paragraph does not supply hexadecimal codes, a star-radius fraction, or a detailed table of dimensions. An accurate digital file must therefore document how those remaining choices were made. The illustrations separate explicit rules from reconstruction decisions so that a precise-looking vector is not mistaken for proof that every coordinate was prescribed in the constitutional text.

Who designed the Senegal flag?

The sources inspected for this article do not establish a verified sole designer of the present flag. Its development is documented through the Mali Federation, Senegal’s separation, and the constitutional record. A political leader’s association with national independence should not be converted into an unsupported claim of individual artistic authorship.

There are several different roles in the creation of a national symbol: proposing an idea, approving a design, passing legislation, drawing a production master, and making the first physical flags. One person may take more than one role, but that relationship needs evidence. This package credits GKBook only for its own geometric reconstruction and educational layouts. It does not claim authorship of Senegal’s national design. The distinction also explains why a modern file creator’s name in image metadata cannot answer a historical question about who originally conceived the flag.

When is Senegal’s national day?

Senegal’s national day is April 4, as stated by its embassy in Brussels. It should not be relabeled as the adoption date of the present flag simply because flags feature in national celebrations. The 1960 flag history and the August constitutional documents need their own dated explanation.

When preparing a school display or event graphic, give the occasion a clear label. A heading such as “Senegal National Day — April 4” describes the celebration without making an additional historical claim about the flag. Keep that heading outside the national rectangle. If a timeline is included, explain what each date represents instead of arranging unexplained numbers beside the flag. The clean image supplied here has no anniversary date, so it can be reused without becoming outdated when a celebration ends or when a different commemorative context is needed.

Did international recognition determine the flag’s adoption date?

International recognition and United Nations membership are separate events. The United States recognized Senegal on September 24, 1960, and the United Nations admitted it on September 28. The flag description had already appeared in the August 31 gazette, so those September dates should not be substituted for its constitutional publication.

Recognition by another state concerns diplomatic relations; admission to an international organization concerns membership in that organization. Neither event automatically supplies the first-use date of a national emblem. This distinction matters when several milestones fall within a few weeks of each other. A well-labeled timeline lets the reader follow them without implying that one government or organization designed the flag. The article therefore uses the United States record and the United Nations admission entry only for the events they actually document, while retaining the gazette as evidence for the earlier published design.

How is Senegal’s flag different from Mali’s flag?

Senegal and Mali both use vertical green-gold-red bands, but Senegal places a green five-pointed star in the middle band. Mali’s present national flag has no central emblem. Check the star first when comparing small images, then confirm that the stripes are vertical and green begins at the hoist.

Four comparison panels explain the star difference and the shared stripe direction.
Figure 19. Senegal and Mali · look for the star The central star distinguishes Senegal from Mali; the comparison does not supply a separate Mali production master.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

Removing the star from Senegal’s flag is not a harmless simplification. It removes the feature that distinguishes it from the neighboring country’s plain tricolor. In a crowded diagram, a very small star can disappear after compression, which makes country labels especially useful. The comparison illustration describes the difference in words rather than presenting a separately color-standardized Mali master. For a Senegal download, preserve the star at the same scale as the rest of the design. Do not erase it to make an icon appear cleaner or easier to print.

How is Senegal’s flag different from Cameroon’s flag?

Both flags have three vertical bands and a central five-pointed star, but their middle and fly colors differ. Senegal is green-gold-red with a green star on gold. Cameroon is green-red-yellow with a yellow star on red. The star’s color and background together provide the quickest reliable distinction.

Four panels compare Senegal and Cameroon by band order and star color.
Figure 20. Senegal and Cameroon · compare two features The Cameroon embassy’s description provides the comparison; the countries use different centers and stripe orders.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

A description such as “green, yellow, and red with a star” is too vague to identify either flag reliably. State the band order from the hoist and identify the star’s color separately. This approach also improves image descriptions for readers who cannot see the picture. The comparison panel isolates those two features, while the clean Senegal master remains unchanged. If an illustration combines a yellow star with Senegal’s gold middle band, it does not match either arrangement described here. Checking the center before exporting helps catch that common mixing of elements.

Is Senegal’s national motto written on the flag?

No. Senegal’s national motto is “Un Peuple – Un But – Une Foi,” commonly translated as “One People, One Goal, One Faith.” The ordinary national flag contains the three bands and green star, without lettering. The constitution presents the motto and the flag as distinct national-symbol provisions.

A motto can appear beside a flag in a poster without becoming part of the flag itself. Preserve that separation by putting text in the page margin, caption, or surrounding layout. Lettering inside the gold band would compete with the star and change the clean design. The same principle applies to a country name, event date, organization logo, or school label. The social card in this package demonstrates a practical solution: it places editorial text outside a complete national rectangle so that the image remains recognizable and reusable in other contexts.

Does Senegal’s coat of arms appear on the flag?

No. Senegal’s coat of arms, which includes a lion and a baobab, is a separate national symbol. The national flag has a green five-pointed star in its gold band. A shield or other coat-of-arms artwork should not replace that star in a reference image of the ordinary flag.

National symbols can share colors or ideas without being interchangeable. A coat of arms is a more detailed emblem with its own arrangement, while a flag needs a recognizable composition at a distance. The article keeps that distinction visible by using only the star in every complete Senegal flag instance. If a publication discusses both symbols, give each its own caption and space. Combining the shield with the tricolor may create an attractive illustration, but it should not be labeled as the plain national flag supplied in this download set.

What does the reverse of the Senegal flag look like?

Viewed through a single layer from the other side, the whole design is horizontally reflected: red appears at the left and green at the right, with the hoist now on the right. The regular star remains upright. This is a geometric viewing explanation, not a claim about mandatory flag-manufacturing methods.

Front flag with green at left above a reflected view with green and the hoist at right.
Figure 21. Front and horizontally reflected reverse The complete design is mirrored as one group. Green stays beside the hoist, now at the right; the regular star remains upright.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

The observer’s position changes which edge appears on the left of the picture. The green band remains attached to the hoist; it does not move to the free end of the fabric. Marking the pole side in both views resolves the apparent reversal. Because the regular star has vertical symmetry, reflecting it horizontally does not turn its top point downward. The supplied diagram mirrors the complete composition as one group. It does not individually rearrange the colored rectangles or present a reverse-view image as the standard front-view download.

How should you prepare a Senegal flag image for printing?

Use the vector SVG when possible, preserve the 2:3 height:length ratio, and keep the bands equal. The supplied PNG is opaque and measures 6,000 by 4,000 pixels. Its RGB colors are a documented screen palette; a printer should proof any conversion rather than treat them as official CMYK or textile standards.

Four practical panels explain SVG, PNG, example print size, and proof checks.
Figure 22. Printing · geometry first, then a color proof The print-size example is a calculation, not a specification for every printing process.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

At 300 pixels per inch, the large PNG corresponds to a print measuring 20 by about 13.33 inches before any bleed or mounting allowance. That is an arithmetic size calculation, not a recommendation for every printing process. The SVG can be enlarged without replacing its geometry with a low-resolution screenshot. Check the proof for a complete star, clean joins between bands, and consistent green in both locations. Keep printer marks and cutting guides outside the flag. Any added allowance belongs to the production layout, not to the national design’s measured rectangle.

How should the Senegal flag be used in digital layouts?

Display the flag at its own 3:2 width:height ratio and scale all elements together. Use descriptive alternative text identifying the vertical green-gold-red bands and central green star. The separate social card is 1,200 by 630 pixels; its wider page shape does not change the proportions of the complete flag inside it.

Dimension table for the clean SVG, large PNG, gallery, and social card.
Figure 23. Flag and illustration file dimensions The clean masters preserve height:length 2:3. The social card contains a complete flag within a separate wider layout.GKBook: original geometric reconstruction and educational layout; constitutional description and Senegal Embassy in Brussels illustration used as references.

For responsive pages, set the image width to fit its container and let the height follow automatically. Cropping with a cover-style image rule can remove an outer band or part of the star, so inspect the result in the smallest intended layout. The SVG is useful for crisp edges, while the PNG suits systems that do not accept vector uploads. A country label helps distinguish the image in mixed flag lists. Decorative flag repeats can have empty alternative text when the surrounding accessible label already identifies them and no additional information is conveyed.

Use the clean flag when you need the national design alone. Choose an explanatory diagram when a lesson or article needs dimensions, dates, or a comparison. The two serve different purposes even though they share the same reconstructed flag geometry. Every subject has a descriptive filename and a caption, making it easier to retain context when downloading individual images. The larger collection also includes image credits and a private editorial record. Those notes preserve the basis for the artwork and the limits of the evidence without placing research apparatus inside the flag image.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Senegal flag look like?

The Senegal flag has three equal vertical bands: green at the hoist, gold in the middle, and red at the fly. A green five-pointed star occupies the center. The familiar rectangular flag uses height:length proportions of 2:3; its basic design is described in Article 1 of the constitution.

When is Senegal’s national day?

Senegal’s national day is April 4, as stated by its embassy in Brussels. It should not be relabeled as the adoption date of the present flag simply because flags feature in national celebrations. The 1960 flag history and the August constitutional documents need their own dated explanation.

Which Senegal flag pictures are included in this download?

The gallery contains 24 subjects, each supplied as SVG and PNG, plus a separate social-preview pair. It includes the clean flag, color and symbolism references, construction diagrams, a dated history, comparisons, and reproduction guidance. Captions distinguish constitutional facts, attributed interpretations, historical evidence, and declared drawing choices.
